What a way to start the year!

This character study serves as some of the very first concept art for Alex Ross's depiction of the Caped Crusader in 1996's Kingdom Come and is filled with his handwritten character design notes, providing an incredible glimpse into Ross's creative process.

If you want to see more of this particular suit (and so many more wonderful sketches, character studies, and designs), I heartily recommend hunting down the 2019 Black Label reprint of Kingdom Come and heading straight to the extras. You can get lost in them for days.

If you've read Kingdom Come, you know it is one of the definitive DC books and part of the western comic canon. If you haven't read Kingdom Come, you should stop whatever you're doing and order yourself a copy or pull it up on DC Infinite.

I'm tremendously honored to own a (small) part of something so incredible.

Fun fact: It was actually a conversation with Bruce Timm that led Ross to move away from this design and instead come up with the power armor depicted in the miniseries.

Great piece from one of Ross' most creative periods of character re/designs between this, Astro City, and Earth X after.
