DescriptionA more modern piece of artwork for the second post for the New Year.I fell in love with this page when I first saw it. It is a modern piece but is unique in its execution. Gene Ha is an excellent artist, but this is the first time I have witnessed this kind of work from him. It is just a beautiful page with such skilful use of ink wash and white paint for maximum impact - with significance as well as it relates to the Black Widow's origins back in Russia. As if this page containing the Black Widow's origins isn't already a good enough reason for Natasha's fans to desire it, it's also beautifully executed in gorgeous washes. Truly an embarrassment of riches!

Many thanks, Rubén! Yes, it is just one of those rare pages where everything, so to speak, comes together so nicely.

It's was Marvel's response to Batman Black and White and they wanted to bring a hot lineup with Ha!, Ditko, Wrightson, and Stelfreeze for just the first issue! Gene Ha more than held his own with the wash as paints and this was given the lead off story!

Many thanks, Marcus! And it was great that Gene did such a great job in this lead off story!

Thanks so much, Nick! I would have probably purchased this piece just for its aesthetics.

Amazeballs. I'll be circling back to view this one again and again. Incredible washes and figure layout.

Gene Ha is a great artist but so underrated for a guy who's worked with Alan Moore and other great comics writers. This page shows so many of his gifts as an artist and storyteller. Congrats!

Many thanks, Mark! And although I haven't had the privilege of meeting him personally, I know that he is a very kind and caring person as well as a great artist.

I just picked up this book a couple weeks ago! :) WOW! An absolute stunner of a page, CAB. A ton of depth and richness; this makes me think of one of the Alex Ross DC hero origin "recap pages", such is its beauty... I know panel 3 is the money panel (and it is GORGEOUS), but I've spent just as much time staring at panel 2, falling into the open space and taking in all the fine details in the buildings, shading, scaffolding, automobile... Just sublime art. Congrats on this beautiful piece, CAB!

Thanks so much, Jason! Alex Ross - it hadn't occurred to me. There is certainly more than a hint of that, without of course detracting from Gene's own unique style and skills.
