DescriptionEasily on of the most Dynamic FF covers of the era, Dr. Doom is at it again!"The Terrible Triumph of Doctor Doom!" Part 2 of 3. Script by Gerry Conway. Cover by Gil Kane & Joe Sinnott. Victor Von Doom crashes his college reunion and captures Mr. Fantastic and Medusa! And now the Latverian monarch is set to unleash Operation Babel (and the vibration bomb) on Earth's population! The rocket-launched bomb will destroy the personality of every person on the globe and transform them into a mindless subject of Doctor Doom! However, the FF's long-time foe may have made a critical mistake by bringing Darkoth and Ben Grimm back from the Balkans in order to witness his stateside triumph! Could there be a traitor in the midst? Meanwhile in upstate New York, Wyatt Wingfoot and Johnny Storm run into trouble with the local police and end up in jail. Cameo appearances by the Invisible Girl and Franklin. (Note: The cover of Fantastic Four 143 was used as the cover for the 1977 Fantastic Four pocket book with one modification: the Invisible Girl replaced Medusa in the background.) As you can see, monumental emphasis was placed on the Thing, as he was heavily outlined by Joe Sinnott. to me, this just adds to how incredible this cover is, especially in person! Social/Sharing |

Great battle action! I'm sure it was a nice change for the artists to put in Medusa instead of Sue.

Always wondered how one goes about building an OA museum. Thanks for the "how to" lesson. Don't think I could pull it off myself, but I'm sure having fun watching you do it. Spectacular Bronze Age FF cover by Kane! Wow!

Outstanding! Man, the more and more I look at OA, the more and more I think, all else being equal, that it's hard to top Doom vs FF examples. Just check this out! Congrats!

Criminy! You keep breaking CAF with these epic pieces, and I am lovin' it!! And I agree, the Thing totally steals the show here, but Doom and the rest of the FF look pretty freakin' awesome too!

Wow! This is amazing. This cover has it all. Strenght (The Thing) Dinamism (The Torch) Plasticity (Reed) Power (Viktor) and Charm (Medusa). Unbeatable!

Pick any synonym for "fantastic." Like many others, I remember this foremost from the Pocket Books cover, but seeing it up close at Burkey's booth & now here kicks it up to whole other level.

Alright, I was trying to find a song for this epic cover, but for some reason a humorous one went well with it to me for some reason. Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus just feels right for me when listening to it and looking at this piece. You might enjoy it if you try listening and viewing. Either way another incredible cover and congrats West.

Beautiful FF cover. Gil Kane did so many great Marvel covers in the 70's, and this is one of his finest. Congrats West!

Wow! One of my favorite Fantastic Four covers! What's not to love about a cover featuring Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four? As they say, this one's got it all--Doctor Doom blasting the Human Torch, the Thing breaking the chains holding him prisoner, plus Mr. Fantastic and Medusa joining in the fray! Front and center of course, is Ben Grimm, bursting his chains and preparing to land a haymaker on the Latvarian Monarch.! It helps too that Joe SInnott made the lines around the Thing thicker so he stands out even more. It's just a great cover all around!
