Description

Wally Wood was given one tryout Sunday when Hal Foster was preparing to retire from Prince Valiant. In the end, Foster wanted someone more illustratively focused rather than the masterful cartooning that Wood was more attuned to. Chris did this recreation in ink on 20" x 28" Bristol - a gigantic piece. When Wood drew the original he drew each tier on a separate board - therefore three pieces of artboard. Chris wanted to attempt putting all the pieces on a single board, and did a masterful job.
