Mutatin' April O'Neil, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT)

Dan Berger commission inspired by the Mutatin' April O'Neil action figure in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutations toy line by Playmates Toys. Berger renders April's before and after look while being exposed to the effects of the mutagen ooze in a sewer tunnel surrounded by a trio of curious cats!

Berger drew the scenario digitally and fellow TMNT veteran artist Ryan Brown provided his own inks by hand to a 11x17 canvas! Included for comparison is an image of Berger's digital pencils! I find great enjoyment in comparing pencils to inks when different artists collaborate. Among several little details, the most noticeable changes are the sewer water/ooze? texture and April's jumpsuit details. Brown's sewer stream has a far more "toxic" look while Berger's looks less polluted but perhaps a little more vigorous current. Regarding the clothes, Berger more closely follows the action figure design with a tight-fitting jumpsuit while Brown introduces a looser fit on the suit and the boots, more commonly seen in the classic cartoon episodes.
