DescriptionI can’t believe it, but I just realized I never actually added this piece to my gallery as I was looking over my top pick ups for the year! What began as a collection goal of obtaining commissions from all of the artists involved in the Death/Return of Superman era morphed to become trying to obtain nice published examples from each of them as well! While I did already have a fun Bogs page, it wasn’t something featuring any of the key characters from the story (technically it wasn’t even part of the official story, but that’s not the point)! This page was a big score for me! A page of Steel in action, drawn by his co-creator! This page is from the issue where Superman makes his triumphant return to Metropolis. Here, Steel is both trying to make sense of The Cyborg’s claim that The Kryptonian (Eradicator) was responsible for the destruction of Coast City, as well as being shot at by street level criminals. Nice bonus Superboy & Cyborg Superman appearances on the TV screens behind him. Very happy with this as the example for my collection, it hits all the right notes for me & features a great image of The Man of Steel! Social/Sharing |

A real Steel of a deal! 1993 #25 in the Triangle era! I don't thing there's been this great of an action image of Steel before or since.

I'm not going to lie, Steel is the only character created in the DoS era that I absolutely hate and don't care about. But having said that, I still admire well illustrated depictions of characters whether I care for the character or not, and this is a superb, dynamic piece by Bogdanove. What's more, it may even be considered THE quintesential Steel piece. MY favourite part of the piece, of course, is the Superboy & Cyborg Superman cameo!

Wow a pure hatred for Steel. That sounds like a conversation I'd love to have with you just for more insight. I'm used to people not quite preferring the unique style of Bogdanove, especially as part of a weekly ongoing story where his art definitely stood out but Steel himself? Interesting and I'm very intrigued!
As for the page itself, yeah I agree this is an incredibly powerful one. I love that it places Steel right in the story of the time, figuring out motives and intentions of the other Suoermen, as well as placing him right in the middle of his personal quest of targeting the street gangs that are armed with weapons he created. So as a whole, it just had everything going for it in my eyes! Plus, right? The Superboy & Cyborg Supes cameo? Icing on the cake!!
