Description

Time to roll out some Kang the Conqueror artwork. Dave Cockrum did only a small handful of Avenger issues, but imho, none were better than the Giant-sized key turning point of the Celestial Madonna storyline by Englehart -- I devoured this issue as a kid!

Here Kang battles the Avengers with Macrobots containing members of the Avengers, with a Thor Macrobot being the remaining opponent. This issue also marks the death of one of my favorite Avengers, the Swordsman, at Kang's hands -- blew my mind back in 74.

I'm not sure who inked this particular page -- read somewhere that Neal Adams came in to finish the last 6-7 pages, but not certain about this page. Anyone know?

Anyway, love the raw rage of Kang in first panel, the kinetic backgrounds of each panel and just the issue in general!

So much power and emotion placed into the faces and body language! It starts strong with Kang and ends even stronger with Vision getting twisted up!

Feels like I've been away from CAF for weeks! How did I miss this? The first panel is perfection and the Swordsman's arc is advanced - poor Swordsman, never good enough...beautiful page, congratulations!
