DescriptionLove this beautiful Virgil Finlay painting from later in his career, when he was selling “fine art” works in New York art galleries. This one was originally sold in a gallery named “Beyond the Blue Door,” and is dated on the back, December 8, 1963. Much of Finlay’s gallery work was landscapes or abstract - what’s great about this one is that it is a fine art work, but has a classic Finlay fantasy theme. Mixed media on board (12” x 9”).Social/Sharing |

I think I like this more than a lot of Finlay's sci-fi art I have seen. Congrats on a very nice pick-up!

Gorgeous painting by Virgil Finlay! I love the figures here, there's a real sense of affection between them. I love the way the color seems to wrap around the figures, as if to protect them from the outside world.
