Some of the most beautiful jungle scenery I've ever seen. That panther head waterfall is the perfect touch. Incredible piece.
Only one comment for this beauty? Doesn't seem fair. Wow! The scenery is at least as impressive as that moody Panther. Beautifully rendered!
Would you believe I didn't even notice the panther waterfall, until you pointed it out? When an artist can achieve that, it tells me that a master artist is leading my eye to see exactly what he wants me to see first and foremost.
We've gotten a few more comments since yesterday :)
Couple folks mentioned not seeing the waterfall initially! It's those subtle things that artists do I'm always impressed with - something in the work not as overt but still just as effective. Totally agree with you on an artist leading you...Felipe definitely doing his thing in that regard here. Thanks, Mark, and all, for the comments!
Another great one from Watanabe! Lush scenery and great character design creates the perfect setting. You're in the jungle baby!
What a feast for the eyes! The details, light and shadow play is gorgeous and really love seeing the waterfall in the mountain behind.
Another powerhouse Watanabe add, K! It couldn't be more different than your Namor piece in terms of lighting and setting (of course), but it is in lock-step with the excellent storytelling, imagination, and stunning execution of that other piece. The lighting on this is absolutely insane; the play of light and shadow on the Panther's chest and left leg are superb. I also love how Filipe set the Panther back along the treeline (as opposed to up in the viewer's face, which would be a natural choice for a commission) underscoring just how much he is an integral and natural part of -this place-, his jungle, his kingdom. Keep your distance, and everything will be just fine. Come closer looking for trouble, and you -will- find it. Just the right mix of majesty and menace; all business. Spectacular, K! You snagged a couple of fantastic pieces from Filipe! Congrats!
Great points, Jason - always appreciate your adds noting things I may not have seen or even thought about. And you're right - Felipe really does capture the ESSENCE of BP and Namor in the 2 pieces, albeit in very different ways! Thanks, man!
I like when T'Challa gets back to his roots. Fantastic atmosphere and rendering!
The bright, lightly outlined foreground and background really pulls your focus to the central figure and trees. Wonderfully composed image!
Really stunning. Something about the angle of the trees giving way to reveal the waterfall adds a sense of mystery to the piece, and the depth of the inks on the trees really sets up the distance to the waterfall. Wonderful pickup, K.
Yeah, man, "mystery" is a great word. The tree line as you note, the lighting, the Panther in the distance...what's next? What lies beyond the line?! The waterfall gives some hint :) Thanks for the add, Casey!
Rock solid job by Felipe!!!
This is really beautiful. Love the interplay of light and shadow on Black Panther's body, love the scenery (including that great Panther head statue waterfall), love all the different textures and tones. And yeah, BP is just chillin', waiting to see what your next move is.
Stellar depth of lighting. BP is clearly the focus, but a beautiful piece even without him. Congrats!
This is really fabulous, Kahlil! The feathering on his right leg as well as the different levels of tree leaf shadows falling across his torso and left leg are spectacular to behold. Enveloped in that setting with the trees and foliage really finished it off beautifully. Congrats!
Beautiful! Love the details and depth added by the inkwash tones.
So many layers! I didn't see the Black Panther head for a few moments. Very cool piece.
Lately there seems to be some stylistically
About the way I feel, with Watanabe
Boy, you know it's with you
Panther can do the things you drew for me
Never to be mistaking, long as it's art he's making
There's gonna be some rain, Panther bring some pain
But as long as I know, ink line will show
The herbs will grow and I know
Love will be right here, be right here
Right here, be right here
No fear, have no fear
No tears, herbs are here
Ha ha, yes, back to junior high! LOVE the song choice, Marcus - SWV mixed with BP?! Where can you find that?! Answer? RIGHT HERE. BE RIGHT HERE. Really dug the "Panther bring some pain" lyric, especially as I was trying to sing it just like she did :) Thanks, man!
Very nice, clearly, it's his jungle ;)
Felipe's got a unique talent for capturing the attitude of the characters and for depicting them in their "natural environment". After the beautiful Namor, another fantastic piece by him in your collection!
A great image. Love all the work that went into the jungle foliage! Makes this almost fine art! Congrats!
Nice leafage!
Another fantastic piece to a fantastic collection! The background work is stunning!
This. Is. Really. Really. Nice. Love the framing, the details, and all of the foliage. Wow. Congrats!
Wow. That is Fresh. Great Pick up Bud.
Beautiful piece. You can feel the serene waterfall in the piece. Such a rich atmospheric rendition
So lush! A great combination of rendering, detail and ink wash. Congrats!
Absolutely stunning, man! Subtle and soft where it needs to be and gritty where it calls for it. An absolute winner!
Wow. I must confess that I was not familiar with this artist's work. That is my loss. What a stunning piece! Big, big congratulations!
I wonder if Watanabe's nickname is The Claw? Because how is his hand anything other than a shriveled claw after drawing things like this?! Holy Detail, Batman! That leaf drop shadow on his costume is brilliantly done. And using ink wash technique to create depth? Wow. This is gorgeous, Kahlil! KAH-THOOM!

Sorry, just popped into my head.
And nothing could stop the Claw from tricking this piece OUT! You get the feeling Felipe was like, "Hmm, why I don't just keep going? A little more. Wait...a little more..." Lol. And yeah, man, hopefully he's getting some periodic hand massages or something! Thanks for the add, J!
...like a black panther stalking its prey in the jungle.
The shadowing from leaves and the background overall are just killer on this. I'm a sucker for art where the artist does all the detail things so well. Congrats man!
Beautifully done! I love the depth of field in this piece and so many great elements throughout.
Damn, I thought this was a cover, tremendous rendering of the King
What I like the most of this amazing artwork is BP's attitude. Stealthy, cautious and fierce like a panther... it's very well executed. Congrats again my friend!
Beautiful visual treat with fantastic use of ink washes to create that mysterious atmosphere!
Just from the thumbnail you can tell it's awesome.
Superb piece with incredibly textured background, that's a winner, congrats !
This is pure perfect, the atmosphere, the composition and the style! Huge congrats and thanks for sharing, Kahlil!
That is a fantastic illustration. What more could you want? Congrats!
