Description
I am happy to be able to post my first Thor piece to my collection. This piece had caught my eye during the last comic art live event in Dino's booth. Again, I found it up for sale last Sunday on comic art live. This time I just could not pass it up. I honestly had always wanted a Thor piece, but never found anything that quite fit what I was looking for. Being a lover of all things cosmic in comic art, I always wanted a cosmic Thor piece. Not only is it cosmic, but it also has a wealth of characters from the series all bunched into one page. There are two panels with Thor (including one wielding Mjolnir), one of Odin, one of Lady Sif, two of Fandral, one of Hogun, two of Tyr, two of Loki, and two that include Storm Giants, Trolls, and Fire Demons. The top panel depicts Asgard floating in space, Yggdrasil and the evil hoard running down the back of Jormungand (A.K.A. the Midgard Serpent). The final panel then depicts the evil hoard appearing from the mouth of Jormungand.

Pencils for this piece were by Alan Kupperberg and inks were by Jim Mooney. I love the nod to Jack Kirby with the Krackle in space. I also love the dynamic lines as the hoard exits Jormungand's mouth and the explosive lightning cracking down upon Mjolnir.

The story involves Loki and Tyr joining forces against against those of Asgard by stealing the golden apples of immortality. A large party from Asgard left to Midgard due to their weakness without the apples. They remained upon Midgard until such a time in which they could take back Asgard. Tyr and Loki then used Jormungand to bridge a Gap between the two realms to bring their forces down upon those of Odin and Thor. A large battle ensues and the rest of the story lies waiting in issue #327.

Hoping to see Thor cosmics
Dino with the art from rainbow to his booth when the claim came through
What CAL you do, hmm?
Tyr with your brother jester
Crying because he doesn't have address without a pouch for the Mooney to go
But you know he'll get buy

'Cause he's living in the love of the golden apples
Smiles for the art from a Kupperberg fan (a-ah-e-ah)
Daddy's gonna buy you a rainbow bridge too
Mama's gonna love Thor just as much as Sif can (It's so bold)
And she can

The Mooney went out the door, so Daddy will be working even harder for the rainbow bridge indeed. That and Mama's love came with stipulations lol. Either way the beauty has me sheading Tyr's.

Agreed that Mooney really brought it with the page. One of the beautiful things about cosmic pages is all the beautiful inks.

Wow, not only did you score a Thor page, but a vintage one as well! Definitely a surprise to me! Congratulations on killing multiple birds with one stone here, snagging practically the entire Thor family on a single page and in Kirby inspired outer space!

Thanks Rubén. There are no steadfast rules to my collecting. If I see something that amazes me, I might just go the extra mile. If I was the Dad bod of art collecting I might have just picked up some chains on my way to god bod. That or just set the mead down for a second at least lol. Thanks for the encouraging words. Next stop a Secret Wars #8 cover. Wait I already have one... Guardians of the Galaxy Pages it is lol.

I'm not normally a fan of Kupperberg's art but he really brings it on Thor, which seems like a far better use of his skills than other titles he was working on at the time.Congrats, Ian.

Oh, it's already been broughten!  Wait... No, I went too far here with a quote from "Not Another Teen Movie". Well I guess the fact that Captain America is in the movie might slightly redeem me. All joking aside, the team really did "Step Up". I love this page and thanks Mark.

Thanks Steve. Since it is my only Thor piece, I figure it will at least fit the bill until one day I can remedy getting more. Its a character I wish I collected more artwork for. Love the character and the Norse theme.

Thanks Kahlil. I am so thrilled to have this in my collection. One of the few doozies that I own, but thrilled to give it a home.
