Description
Day 10. Thirty-One days of Star Wars (2024 edition) continues!

Leia and Dani are held captive by the Tofs, and receive a helping hand from the evasive Hoojibs. Hoojibs!!

This is from Ken Steacy's first work on Star Wars, just two issues before the end of the original Marvel series, and a wonderful collaboration with layout artists Steve Leialoha and Cynthia Martin. Signed by Steacy in the bottom image area.

Martin's clean lines and strong sense of movement during action scenes set her apart from other Star Wars artists of the time. Her 11 issue run at the end of the series displayed the influence of Japanese manga long before it became common in American comics. Having watched Robotech everyday after getting home from junior high during a chunk of that same two year period put me in the mindset to enjoy the shift in style for the series.

I found out art I've been missing
Later in the run
I need Cynthia Martin

Now your Leia like Steve before
And you know just they'd be freed
It took some lines of Ken Steacy

That Hoojibs good love to me, Dani
So good, take this art of mine into Tof hands
You give Hoojibs to me (you give Hoojibs to me)
It's never tooth brush (never tooth brush, will never be)
Too much Steacy, Hoojibs good love (ah)

Love the movement in the fifth panel...and any thing Star Wars-related that Steacy worked on.

I was a big fan of Steacy when he first burt onto the scene. His style is so distinctive, there's no mistaking it, even when he's only handlingthe inking chores!

I was so glad when he got to do more Star Wars in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He did a lot of illustrated Star Wars magazine covers and trading cards, in addition to some sequential art stories in the fan club magazines.
