Description

Long before the Netflix tv show, Neil Gaiman tried to pitch a Sandman movie, so he asked Jill Thompson to create a series of paintings to show around. This watercolor painting is supposed to be one of the first scenes in the movie, the scene of Morpheus getting captured.

Obviously, a movie never got made, which makes me glad because I don’t think you can fit the rich world of Sandman into a movie. I’m also glad I bought this concept art early on from Cadence Comic Art. Ever since the tv show came out, they raised the prices for the unsold paintings around 3x higher.

Looks like they wanted to amp it up to be sharp for a Superhero style and lighter in tone for the mysticism.
