Description
I had a fantastic weekend at HeroesCon 2023 in Charlotte, NC; my first time back to conventions since before the pandemic as well as my return to NC State to finish up my B.A. It's been years, but everyone still remembered me, and it was so good to reconnect and network again. I bought a bunch of art--I was looking for pieces by the people I am fortunate enough to consider friends, as well as a couple of pieces which fit into the "historical and influential" category of my original art interests.

Daniel Govar has been a great industry friend for a long while, and we have attended many of the same conventions over the years. He is a good guy, and not only do I love his beautiful watercolor works (he's pretty well known for his dragon and fantasy pieces...they've been on book covers, etc.), and this year he had a graphic novel he illustrated called "Tuskers" about elephant sanctuaries in Africa where they raise elephants who have lost their parents and packs to poachers so they can go back into the wild with new packs. Daniel described it as a "chase story," and I'm excited to read the book, but despite not yet having read it, I bought a couple of pages I loved for his storytelling and his animals, which are always amazing. He told me about some of the research that went into the book, and I was (as I generally am with him) impressed.

This page features a baby elephant trying to approach a meercat and finding him less than thrilled with the concept. So good.

Really glad to finally add a couple of Govar originals to my collection!

The screech effect is very fun with the baby quickly scurrying back to the mom!
