Did he talk much about the book while drawing?  From his own video, he put his worst moments in life in the book and didn't go in depth further.  He also mentioned how his brother's controversies overshadowed him promoting this book.

I didn't even know who he was when I met him and bought a couple of his books because the art intruigued me.  I didn't realize at the time who his brother was, either, despite the distinctive last name.  We didn't discuss anything along these lines at the time.  I've read a few of his books now and I think they're terrific.  He certainly doesn't shy away from embarrassing or self-effacing moments in his stories.

Are the books sequential or are they all independent of each other?

Great question.  I think some of his longer story arcs are sequential, such as his Fante Bukowski saga, but some of his other stories are stand-alone works.  At this point I think most of his stuff is available in collections that give you a complete arc in one volume.
