Walt Disney's Dumbo: Fly, Dumbo, Fly Children's Early Reader Storybook Preliminary Illustrations by John Kurtz Original Art plus Print Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 2012). Longtime children's book illustrator John Kurtz created the artwork for this "Step Into Reading" book for "super early" readers, based on Disney's classic 1941 animated feature Dumbo. Here are two pages of preliminary art featuring that beloved flying elephant. The first is drawn in graphite and blue pencil on a sheet of 16 field animation paper; there are three images in all, two of Dumbo stretching out his enormous wings, and one of Dumbo with the other adult elephants. The approximate image sizes are 4.5" x 4", 5.5" x 3.25", and 6.5" x 9.5", and the drawings are noted as Page 8 & 9. The second piece is a wonderful graphite drawing of Dumbo flying through the air with Timothy riding along, as the circus clowns (dressed as firemen) look on in amazement. The image size is 6" x 12.4" on 10.75" x 15.25" paper, marked 22 in the lower left. Both pages are hand-signed by John Kurtz. A color print of the book's front cover is included. Art condition is Good to Very Good with handling and edge wear on the 16 field page, minor handling wear on the smaller drawing.
