"A NECESSARY WOMAN"

Artist: DAVE PETHER

Dave Pether (1943-2023) was a British illustrator who contributed to many book cover and magazines as well as television shows and movies. This is a lovely painting he created for the cover of "A Necessary Woman" - one of two romance novels he illustrated for the popular author Helen Van Slyke (I show the cover for reference only) Published by Corgi 1980, it was painted in "wraparound" landscape format in gouache and acrylic on illustration board, 10.25" x 14", and carries a label on the reverse attesting to authenticity, signed by Pether's widow.

This vintage, almost monochrome painting is showing some signs of wear and tear, with some foxing (spotting) in the unpainted areas and minor discoloration here and there, likely due to age and storage sometime over the past 40 + years.
