Spesso indicato come la prima graphic novel, A Contract with God è stato illustrato e scritto da Will Eisner, il pioniere dell'arte sequenziale per il quale prendono il nome gli Eisner Awards dell'industria del fumetto.Questa splash page riporta la celebre battuta "Questa volta non violerai il nostro contratto!"; si tratta di un preliminare reso in grafite e matita colorata e numerato "50" su carta patinata etichettata "Poorhouse Press", una società pseudonima con un indirizzo di White Plains, NY, utilizzato esclusivamente da Eisner. È montato su tela dietro. Il fluido correttore è visibile nella parte inferiore della pagina.
