The widescreen panels are great with the black fill in between. They blend in with the shadows within that connect to the border. It makes it look like the darkness is taking a bite into each panel.
I totally agree, especially when it all focuses on the last panel you do get the sense (no pun intended) with the focus on Spideys eyes dripping from the boarder.
