On Friday, I posted about one of two science fiction paintings we picked up at an auction last Thursday. Here's the second of them, dated 1953, by Dutch science fiction artist, Ben Abas. I'd not been familiar with him before this, but he was active in SF circles in the late 1940's through early 1950's, attending the 1951 International Science-Fiction Festival Convention in London. He also did some work for U.S. fanzines during this period. Most interesting to me, he was editor of the first science fiction magazine in the Netherlands, "Fantasie en Wetenschap", which ran for four issues between 1948-1949. Abas did the cover art for each issue. He also worked during this period for various Dutch comics.

I have no idea if this piece was ever published; if anyone can ID it, please let me know.

This is a great idyllic landscape and the science fiction part only intrudes upon it in two small vehicles. The purples and pinks make this atmosphere so soothing.
