Description

As a young boy, I was a big fan of the first primary cover painter and occasional story artist on the UK war comic Commando. I was also a fan of Ken Barr who had begun illustrating editor Joe Kubert's war comics about the same time as I started buying them. It was many years later when I discovered that Ken Barr was also the Commando artist. This Battle Album is from Star Spangled War Stories #145, June-July 1969, and was the third assignment he did for Kubert.

Great showcase of these war machines. It's almost a tale of the tape with strengths and weaknesses exposed in this dog fight matchup!

Very nice detail on the planes. I recall the Germans being first to synchronize the machine gun with the propellers but not the British aircraft designed in response. What an unusual looking aircraft, like the P-38 Lightning. I appreciate the write-up on Ken Barr. I need to read more British war comics from that period.
