DescriptionPublished 1966 by Harvey comicsThe Hand Is Quicker Than the Monster! written possibly by Ed Herron and Jim Steranko As the super-hero craze heated up in the mid 60's, everyone wanted to get into the game and Harvey comics, publisher of mostly comedic kids comics, hired Joe Simon to create a super-hero line for them. These heroes included Bee-Man, Spyman, Jigsaw, Magicmaster, Glowing Gladiator, Tiger Boy, and Jack Q Frost. Spyman was created by Jim Steranko who provided a couple of illustrations and scripts to Joe Simon. In an interview in Fantastic Fanzine # 11, 1970, Steranko stated: "I had worked for Joe Simon years ago. I created a half-a-dozen characters for Joe Simon on order. He bought three of them; three original characters. I wrote the stories, never drew them...". Social/Sharing |

A great Dick Ayers page. I like that the description quotes someone--Steranko!--working on Harvey Comics superheroes such as Spyman. It's nice to see a fanzine with an early Steranko interview (1970) serving as a comics history reference.
