DescriptionIn mid November Terry shared a rejected sketch from his Kickstarter commission on his Twitter account. The sketch he had come up with for the piece hadn’t captured the mood that the buyer had wanted from the piece so had requested Terry do another take to come up with exactly what they were wanting. As soon as I saw the sketch I immediately loved it. It had everything I had been wanting in my dream Katchoo and Francine piece. It had them both in Katchoo’s studio are a little art session together and to me the mood was just so much fun. I couldn’t get the sketch out of my head so after about an hour of constantly thinking about it I decided to just send Terry an email to see if by any chance he would be willing to sell the piece. Of course I didn’t know if he would but I didn’t see any harm in asking. After what seemed like forever but was actually only a couple hours I received an email from Robyn telling me that the piece was available and gave me a few pricing options depending on how finished I wanted the piece to be. I knew I would regret it if I just purchased the piece as the rough sketch so I decided on having Terry do finished pencils. I would have loved to have had him ink the piece but it just wasn’t in the budget at this time. As it is I’m just so happy to finally have such a large drawing of them together. This really is a dream piece for me. Ever since I read Strangers in Paradise I’ve wanted a piece with Katchoo’s art and what’s better than a piece with Francine and Katchoo in the studio after actually creating such a piece. The piece in the background is actually an homage to one of the paintings from Katchoo’s gallery opening in the book with some slight changes. That change mainly being Francine nude this time. Terry made a few nice homages in this piece. The first being that the main painting in the background is a piece inspired by the style of Patrick Nagel. The second homage is the smaller painting in the foreground being that of Jeffrey Catherine Jones who is one of Terry’s original muses from when he was a teenager. I absolutely love those little details. Just gives the piece a nice backstory. There were quite a few changes made between the rough drawing that I thought I was purchasing and the final finished pencil I received. Did I love the rough sketch? Yes I did but I must say I’m even happier with the drawing I received. Was I a little disappointed I didn’t get all of the funny Easter eggs he had drawn in the first rough like the bunny slippers and the tongue mug strategically placed over Katchoo’s nether regions? Yes I was but the finished piece he came up with is so much classier and a better representation of how these characters see each other. You can just feel the happiness that surrounds them when they are together. Simply a wonderful moment of these two and the joy that they bring into each other’s lives. For me this is the perfect piece and I couldn’t be any happier. It took a while to get such a perfect piece but it was well worth the wait. So happy to finally have this dream piece in my collection and gracing my wall. Size 11x17 on Bristol Social/Sharing |

I remember seeing the exchange with Terry on Twitter with the rejected commission, so kudos to you for taking that chance and asking for it! And it worked out as a mini-commission too, so congrats on getting your SiP dream piece!
