Description

When I was little, I discovered the Legion by reading through my father's extensive collection of Bronze Age comics, and so it wasn't until I was older that it ever crossed my mind to visit the local comic shop and buy some issues for myself. The first comic books I ever bought were from this "Retroboot" run of the Legion, all penciled by Yildiray Cinar, and issue #4 was indeed among them. I fell in love with Cinar's art and his depiction of the Legionnaires I remembered so well from childhood.

This is the closest I've ever come to scoring a true "grail" for my collection. When I got the Want List notification for the CAF Classified listing, I could hardly believe my eyes. I don't think I've ever sent an email so quickly in my life! It's such a gorgeous splash page, and such a fantastic display of Cinar's skill with the pencil. And what's even better is that it has a fair number of my favourite Legionnaires on it (especially Brainiac Five, who I've always felt Cinar was particularly adept at drawing)!

Finally, an enormous thank-you goes out to fellow CAF member and Cinar-appreciator Larry Wilson for putting this page up for sale, and for being so delightful to chat with! Thanks to him, I can look at this little piece of my comic-reading history and see all the original thought and detail that wound up transformed by later inks and digital colours.

Beautiful splash that embodies your genuine love and appreciation of the Legion passed down from your father. Just like family gatherings, these Legion meetings can pretty tense!
