Description
Although Howard the Duck appeared for a panel or two drawn by Val Mayerik in Adventure in Fear #19 a year prior, frankly it was an understandably uncharacteristic and generic rendition. This beautifully crafted splash is really the first time we see the artistically rendered Howard that we all grew to know and love. For me at least a lot of the reason this quirky character got my attention was the exquisite illustrative drawing that Brunner brought to the page. I was very saddened when he left the strip so soon. I'm happy to get this perfect example.

Always puts a smile on my face to see any 70's Marvel work br Brunner on CAF (or anywhere else for that matter).  While I would never, ever, label Frank as unimportant, he does tend to get overlooked when listing the Marvel greats of that era.  And yes, Mayerik did do this character first.  But whereas Val just drew a talking duck, Frank put the "Howard" in Howard the Duck.

thanks Eric oh yes I agree, Val's duck was just a talking duck~ Frank did indeed make him 'Howard' the Duck.

OMG! What a memorable Howard the Duck splash by Frank Brunner. This title page, more than any other from the book, really stuck in my brain for its sheer audacity! Seeing Howard toppling head over heels through the Un-World is crazy, but cool as well. That huge bottom panel with Howard floating right towards the reader is bonkers! Loved this story and I love this page. Serious congrats, Rob!

Great intersection of humor and cosmic weirdness of the time period done in grand fashion.  Brunner gave Howard presence and star power here.

Well, a nearly pefect Howard page by Brunner. Mine would have to be one with his girlfriend in her skimpy, pseudo barbarian outfit. Howard clearly could not carry that outfit off.
