Description
I’m happy to add yet another piece of movie history to my collection…the original artwork for an early storyboard for the first Star Wars - A New Hope. This was done in 1975 by the great Joe Johnston…from the original Alderaan sequence we see the Pirate Ship (which would evolve into the Millennium Falcon) leaving the planet…pencil & ink & gouache on velum…
A big bonus was the inconspicuous piece of paper, that accompanied this storyboard. It details very nicely the changes that were made (1. change of storyboard position from 33 to 36; 2. the location/planet Alderaan was exchanged for the Death Star and quite a bit more…) and gives a glimpse into the production process of one of the greatest movies of all time. The black handwriting is supposedly by George Lucas…unfortunately no idea who might have been behind the red handwriting…

Now that's a great unseen part of movie and Star Wars lore.  Johnston had in mind the slight bank of the flight path which required advanced filmaking and innovative techniques it would take when he drew this up.
