Death makes his first appearance in Jim Starlin's "Infinity War" arc. This story, called "I Thanos" was serialized for different issues in "Marvel Comics Presents", and is important to the main plot. It is included in all subsequent compilation hardcovers.

On the other hand, the text that accompanies the vignettes is very Thanos, and very Starlin, beautiful.

In this story, Death speaks for the first time to Thanos and sends him a mission to obtain his love in return, to kill Warlock.

On the other hand, Thanos himself questions having really seen his mistress Death... suggesting for the first time that he may be MAD.
