Description

I love to see what artists come up with when left to themselves. This creator-owned series has a similar concept to JH Williams III's Echolands: a motley team of heroes is assembled from different genres of comic books. Murphy's story adds an extra layer of "meta" since the team's purpose is to enter failing narratives and correct continuity errors. Furthermore, the main character and the team leader were inspired by Murphy and his own grandmother, so it's a personal tale as well.

At this point near the series climax, "Ed" (short for "Editor," who represents Murphy's grandmother) is trying to convince semi-reformed villain Surge to help out the team one last time. The art is terrific as usual; Murphy put a patch on the central image of Ed to get her face just right.

I had picked up another page from this series just based on the art. Then I read and enjoyed the series. One year later I got this page, the last in Sean's possession. Is it time to do a sequel?

It has the familiar SGM storytelling layout where the central image of tension is given inset panels of interactions and leaves us with a resolution panel at the end.  How he fills it is cartooning and modern illustration done right.

For some reason makes me think SGM should do an American Flagg book.  Has that vibe to me.
