Description

This is my third in this sequence of powerful and sexy heroines from client Michael Rankins, this one being his 75th one by me over the pencils of the late Al Rio. Besides that 75th milestone, this is a return of two commission staples: the last time I inked Rio's work was my 9th job over him in 2012, just over 11 years ago. And one of my favorite characters the Scarlet Witch hasn't been commissioned to or sketched by me since 2010 (not counting a couple of Avengers minor team commission appearances). This is my 14th Wanda and my 10th Al Rio job.

This project was for Michael's "Sometimes I Wanda: Scarlet Witch Art"-themed gallery. In this image she's chillin', possibly feeling rapture, while engulfed within hex energy surrounding her. Besides markers I added some textured zip to the energy as I channeled how Marshall Rogers and Terry Austin handled sorcery/spells in their brief run on Dr. Strange v2 #48-53 (1981-82). This also placed only the solid blacks on her to emphasize her over the magic. This blueline image was inked on 11"x17" Kubert 2-ply Strathnore board and it was completed on July 19, 2021.

Thanks for the kind words! But Al Rio gets credit for the sexy pose and rendering before me. My job is to do my best to enhance it and not butcher anything; like the Hippocratic Oath- "Do No Harm";-)
