Description

For our 79th commission from Michael Rankins we have my second job by Alan Patrick who previously rendered Wonder Woman vs. Medusa. I like that Alan doesn't use stock poses and often uses uncommon angles to pose characters which can add a dynamic element to a composition. There's a lot happening here, a chaos, but a controlled one. It's a modern image but it feels Kirby action nostalgic to me.

This is my 8th Thor commission and only my 4th Valkyrie (the Marvel version, not to be confused with the Golden-age Lev Gleason version, which I've inked twice). All of the Vals were commission by Michael.

This one took forever. But I don't mind when they turn out this great and it's another piece I look forward to getting colored and offer it as a print for sale before long. I used by Kuretake, Pitt brush, micron markers and other markers and usual tools but I also scraped some X-acto razor on the board near the bottom to enhance the flash lines over the ground details and textures. This was inked as a blueline on 11"x17" Kubert 2-ply board and I completed this job October 4, 2021.

Tom Chu colored the image on July 20, 2024.
