Description
I got this fantastic Marvel Fanfare #3 page by the amazing Dave Cockrum and Bob McLeod from Michael Lovitz at the last Comic Art Live in November. We did an overall trade, and been meaning to post this. Having posted the Marvel Fanfare #1 page by Michael Golden, it seems the perfect time to post this as well! Thanks to Michael for such a great trade that we put together! 41 years old! from 1982!

Synopsis for "Into the Land of Death..."
Angel calls in the X-Men to help deal with Sauron in the Savage Land. Since Ka-Zar and Shanna had left for Pangea,[1] an alliance of Sauron, Zaladane, and Magneto's mutates was able to quickly conquer the land. The X-Men clash with the mutates and force a captured Amphibius to lead them to Sauron's fortress, but it turns out to be a trap. The fortress is surrounded by a will-sapping energy field that ensures they're quickly defeated and set to be devolved by the mutates' machine to provide Sauron with an endless supply of mutant energy to drain. Only Angel escapes capture, but someone unexpected finds him instead...

Even more rare than a leap year day as these don't even come around every four years!  This Savage Land story page even references the previous Michael Golden issues.  Was Dave Cockrum also creating issues in this story only to be put into inventory?

Cockrum and McLeod were both firing on all cylinders during the early 80's and they had styles that complimented each other well, so it's no surprise they combined to create this gem of a story and this is a fabulous page from it. Big congrats, Nick!
