Just loved this piece. Especially, the note at the bottom where the artist dedicated the piece to a friend who he was meeting to see Harry Truman throw out the first ball at Griffith Stadium.

Russell Patterson was a well known illustration artist, having contributed pieces used as covers for Life magazine, The Saturday Evening Post, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair, and others. "Mamie" ran on Sundays from 1951 through 1956, with a focus on a "dumb blonde" character.

Patterson, known for his drawings in women's fashion magazines brought that sensibility to Mamie. Some of the strip had cut out paper dolls that kid could dress in different outfits. This one was just plain funny to me.

Pretty interesting layout with the lone tall panel to take in the spectacle of the wrestling match. The final panel with the gag plays even today.

Patterson's girl art is such a treat to see. He became so good at it that girls drawn in that style would be called Patterson girls just like they had previously refered to Gibson girls and Brinkley girls. Fun Sunday with nice images.
