Description
After posting the Watchmen page price list recently, I was looking around to see if I had some more info on that. In the process, I came across this Swamp Thing page price list that came directly from John Totleben with a shipment of artwork purchased from him back in 1987. After some reactions on the 1987 Watchmen page list, I thought people might find this list interesting as well.

Seeing the ridiculously low prices John was asking for these pages back then makes Neil Gaiman's comments regarding his recent auction (3/2024) resonate a bit more:

“And I like the idea of normalizing the idea that we who do have art we bought for $50 a page or $100 a page that now sells for tens of thousands of dollars a page get into the idea of giving back something to the artists who originally drew it”

I haven't seen any specifics as to how much Neil was planning to share with the artists from his auction, but *one* of John's Miracleman covers sold for 13x more than *all* of the page prices on this list added together.

This is so interesting to see. Thank you for sharing this history. Did you contact JT directly back then and he mailed you this list?

My brother and I had gotten to know Steve and John at various conventions over the years and also bought some artwork from them through the mail, etc.  This list from John was included in one of those mailed shipments, along with a letter from which I determined the date.

Pretty nice piece of history!  He didn't price the Moore pages too far off from the issues before.

I see 2 of the 3 pages I still own on the list (in my CAF)...looks like John valued the issue 53 pages a bit more - perhaps as he penciled and inked?
