Description

Michael (Mike) Codd was a prolific illustrator in the UK in from the mid-1970's all the way until the 1990's. A journeyman master, along with Les Edwards and Melvyn Grant, he's known for his stunning 'Mayfair' and 'Park Lane' DPSs (illustrations so good that you really would 'read them for the articles'), he's probably best known for the grim and uncompromising cover illustrations for Sven Hassel's naziplotation sagas. In the US he's best remembered as the illustrator for a very successful series of books on US Civil War Uniforms.

This a great example of his work, again on a military theme. The cover for military author John Wingate's 'William the Conqueror' (Weidenfield & Nicolson, 1983), it shows the pivotal moment at the battle of Hastings where Duke William of Normandy shows his face to the Norman army, disproving the rumours of his death.
