Description
i got into Ed through his Hip Hop Family Tree book. when i saw he was coming to Houston i had to meet him. i remember thinking he was kind of quiet and nothing like the persona i would later see on his Cartoonist Kayfabe show. i found his autobiographical works to be really insightful, relatable, and very well done. this guy did his research and paid his dues and it showed in everything i read of his. i never met him again but by the time x-men grand design came out it seems everyone knew who he was. i had a lot of mutual friends with him and they're all pretty devastated by the news of his passing. my sincere condolences to his family and friends. this sketchbook was meant for marvel characters but i thought getting an MF DOOM by Ed was a way to truly capture the influence comic books had on entertainment culture. and ed's hip hop family tree was a great fusion of hip hop and comics in a way i'd only seen maybe Jim Mahfood do before him. so i feel this sketch brings it all full circle between. RIP Ed

2014 was when he was really blowing up in popularity after being picked up by Fantagraphics!  Tough to think about that it was just 10 years and for many more when Cartoonist Kayfabe took off at the time of the pandemic, it was only 3 to 4 years ago.
