Description

I am very happy to finally run across a nice example of H.T. Webster's The Timid Soul. As prolific as Webster was, this title is relatively uncommon. This panel, published on December 20, 1937, features our hero Casper Milquetoast, being overly cautious about the thickness of the ice. The drawing is quite beautiful, especially the skating marks and reflections on the ice. You can't tell from the scan, but Webster scratched through in areas to help create the effect of the reflection. The blue pencil in the sky indicates where the Ben Day shading would be applied mechanically. You'll find the printed image in the Additional Images area.

Humorous, but I think at the same time educational. It people didn't know already know about this, they can learn something and pretend to laugh just the same.
