Description
Published 1975
The Stalkers
written by Gaylord Du Bois

Tono and Kono, the Jungle twins were created for Western Publishing after they lost their ERB property Tarzan to DC comics. The creators were the same team that was doing Tarzan at the time, Gaylord Du Bois and Paul Norris.

I wanted a decent George Wilson example in my collection and this one fit the bill.

George Wilson worked as a commercial artist for ad agencies and publishing houses.
In 1955 he started to produce painted covers for Dell Comics producing hundreds of covers for comics such as Tarzan and Turok.

A very nice Wilson painting and so much more vibrant that the printing technology of that era could possibly show us!

I waited for a George Wilson
I don't know why it didn't come
That left you buying twins of fun
Tono why I didn't come
Kono why the lizard run

Dell I saw will break out paint
I wished that knife could slice away
Instead of needing in Tarzan
Catching art-drops in my hand

My art is drenched in line
But you'll be on my mind in cover

Out across the jungle scene
I would die in the gold key
But I'll be a bag Du Bois
Writing down the art I own

These 25-center DELL covers were always exiting and filled with color. Great Wilson example!

Beautiful Wilson.  Love that green.  Ok, here's my speech:  That green will fade badly if you leave it in the sun even for a short time. Hate to beat a dead horse, but these paintings are dropping like flies, and I see so many that have faded badly over the years.  And you have one beautiful Wilson there.   It's got it all.
