Seemingly out of nowhere, a massive tidal wave slams into the floating skyscraper-hotel, with predictably catastrophic results. Too bad the builders skimped on safety features! Legs narrates the disaster in retrospect:
“If I escaped death thanks to the help of the mutants, May survived thanks to her lucky stars and the construction features of Rooper's hotel. Since it was designed for immersion in the depths of the ocean, its floating base absorbed the impact of the tsunami without being destroyed! Inside, however, the blow of the wave produced devastating effects for things... and for people. Perhaps, if the control room staff had noticed the wave's approach in time, they could have had the hotel submerged. But it wasn't like that, and they paid the consequences. As May later told me, it lasted a few moments, during which there wasn't even time to think about what to do! The hotel was pushed halfway under water. Its large diving tanks filled with water! The hotel began to sink inexorably!”
This actually happened at a good time for Agent May, since Shon had a gun pointed at her. She's able to escape in the chaos. Furthermore, subsequent pages reveal that Derek, one of May's three assailants (the dark-haired one), is struck by falling debris and dies.
This spread is filled with sound effects of the effects of the water on the swaying building and its contents. The final panel shows the hotel tipping over until a rocky ledge arrests its underwater fall. Verdi's attention to environmental effects reminds me of Akira.
