DescriptionI finally got a Shadow sketch from Howard, a key artist of the post-pulp Shadow comics! You might wonder why it's a big deal since it's not unusual to see Howard at a con. Early on in my sketchbook journey he did a quick Batman and Joker, which also is in this gallery. However, the Shadow is a more recent interest and a sketch of this character by Howard hasn't worked out for one reason or another. A small local con in April 2024 offered just the right opportunity so I pulled the original book out of retirement for sketches by Howard and Walt Simonson. When I picked up the book, I asked him to add the date. I probably shouldn't have because the piece looks better without it. But that's what I usually ask artists to do. But we're good, and I had a nice chat with him. He probably would roll his eyes if he ever reads this. Oh well. That's ok. All right original sketchbook, back you go into the Jack Benny vault. There's a story you can take away behind every Howard Chaykin sketch. That's why it's worth it to get one in person rather than getting one on the secondary market.

Cool! I loved Chaykin's 4-isse mini-series in 1987 and he's such a classic character!

I have one myself and I love it. Howard is the one that turned me into Shadow fan. That mini series is one of the few things I've held onto from my comic collecting days.
