Alex Raymond - Jungle Jim Topper 14 July 1940

Another work by the "old masters". This is the Jungle Jim topper that accompanied Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon Sunday from 14 July 1940.

Here, after Jim and Kitty are shipwrecked, he fights to keep her above the waves. Staying afloat, he sees land as dawn breaks and swims them to the shore there he quickly finds a coconut to feed Kitty. The Flash Gordon is in another post. Both strips were rendered in ink over graphite on two separate illustration boards. Curiously, the Jungle Jim strips is smaller in 1940 than they were in 1938. Together, they have a combined image area of ~21.5" x 27.5", and both strips are signed.
