DescriptionOver more than 120 issues, Ed Brubaker has crafted my favorite Marvel run of the last 2 or 3 decades and I believe his whole Winter Soldier saga is one of the best comics runs ever.I had been lucky enough to score a few key scenes of that instant classic by Steve Epting but my quest for a great piece drawn by Brubaker's other frequent Cap collaborator, Butch Guice, had been infructuous... until now. I've been a fan of Guice's art for as long as I remember : back when I was a kid reading Micronauts, X-Factor, Flash and so many others afterwards. So I've been following his career for 40 years (gulp, I'm not getting any younger!) and, unlike most of my comic art heroes from the 80s, I believe he keeps getting better. His classy, exquisitely beautiful, moody and yet dynamic style makes his storytelling both very modern and retro, timeless in a way : just perfect for Brubaker's saga. It's always tough to meet someone you've admired since you were a kid : it's near impossible to not be disappointed, but it was not the case with Mr Guice. Through our email exchanges, I've discovered someone extremely nice and generous; really the nicest artist, but also... a completely crazy genius ! What started as a simple commission request morphed into this massive (17x22) piece featuring all the key scenes of the Winter Soldier saga. I wanted 1 scene, I got 15 of them ! And all my favorite ones too ! It's as if he could read my mind, understanding what would make me love the piece even more... and drawing it so much better than what I could imagine. A true gentleman and a true artist. I love this piece for so many reasons ! Social/Sharing |

The espionage spy genre flourished on his run and his take on Winter Soldier makes for a great commission. A career restrospective of Guice would be very interesting with his career beginnings, the change in styles, and where he is today!

Wow! Insanely cool commission by Butch Guice! I'm blown away by all the detail Butch put into this one piece! I love the way he incorporated so much of the Winter Soldier Saga on this commission. From the top right image of Cap and Bucky in WWII, right down to the explosive scenes of his current incarnation as Winter Soldier, Butch has managed to tell it all on one board. This is one of the best commissions I've seen ever, congrats!

If any commission deserved to be turned into a wrap into a published wrap around cover, it would be this one!
