Description

From the second season Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Fred Wolf Films) premiere episode "Return of the Shredder," here's an excellently framed cel of Splinter being held captive by Shredder's restraints, and it reminds me a lot of the 1990 movie, so I wonder if the filmmakers might have taken inspiration from this scene.

This is a painted acetate cel layered over background print. In this case, the the supplied background is different than the episode context, replacing a basic wall with a shipping crate, but it still works well enough for the overall effect.

These cels were sold framed in mats and protective plastic sleeves at various toy and department stores throughout the early 1990s under the "Animation Art" label. This cel was scanned without the plastic seal, providing a clear image of the art. Also attached is a screencap from the VUDU digital copy, showing the approximate cel in its final form at around the 19 minute, 15 second mark.

Cool bondage image! I'm sure kids wanted all the turtles cels first, so these would be kind of rare today. The turtles got to save someone besides April and it made Shredder a bigger threat to be able to capture Splinter.
