Description

Another in my series of All-Star Squadron "alternate covers", in this instance recreated from Rich Buckler's original pencils (reproduced in the second volume of the All-Star Companion). Jerry Ordway made a few amendments to the published cover, largely at Roy Thomas' request, including altering Batman's pose, adding a ray to Green Lantern's ring, and changing the shapes of Wonder Woman's lasso and Hawkman's mace-chain.

Separately, I asked artist Bambos Georgiou if he could replace "The Power Of Shazam" wording on the cover with the Golden Age Captain Marvel logo (DC may not be able to use it on covers, but I can).

Interestingly, if you zoom in at the top, the original art also indicates that this was planned as the cover of All-Star Squadron #34 (not issue #36, which is where it appeared). There's some evidence that the "Earth-X saga" was extended to five issues from four, but that still doesn't quite account for how this cover could have been due to appear two issues earlier. That particular mystery will probably remain unsolved, although I'd theorise that the Seven Soldiers Of Victory story in issue #29 might have been pulled forward to appear before the Earth-X saga.
