Description
Sgt. Rock arrives in Burma to begin his Pacific Odyssey ("School for Sergeants" April, 1973). Russ was producing some of his best work during this period, but he was struggling with deadlines. Editor Joe Kubert received the next story too late for a May release and then had to substitute a reprint for #261 when that story failed to arrive from Chicago.

Heath excels here in this genre!  Looks like a paradise compared to the hellish landscapes where the battle is waged.  He certainly gave these characters a lot of thought beyond just being there as part of the plot.

Heath really WAS on fire at this time! The story from issue #255, the issue right before this one, contains some of my all-time favourite Heath Sgt Rock pages! Nice addition to your wonderful collection, Alan! I hope to see you and all your amazing war art at Jeff's house again in September.

The page from #255 where the soldiers are fixing the road signs at night in the rain and are then accidentally bombed is masterful. I always look forward to seeing everyone at Jeff's.
