Captain America: Living Legend Prelim 03

The inking stage is, more or less, complete. As you can see, I've thrown in more conflict on the upper part of the page to drive that war-torn environment in to the viewer. With Microns 003 to 01, I've created varying degrees of cracks, marks, and even dust on the walls and the pavement. I've also established that the spotlight on Cap is coming from the left, so all shadows are falling to the right of the page. If you'll notice, I've also put a minimal amount of hatching on the bricks at the right to convey a sense of the wall's age and textural style. Through color I will define some of this texture on the areas of the wall that are illuminated. For the purpose of my desire to print a black and white version of this piece, I've removed the pencilled in scales on Steve's back. However, they will be redrawn as I need a guide for when I apply mixed media. The same goes for the ballistics bouncing off of the shield; I felt it would look more organic if they were "painted" in as opposed to penned in. Anyway, I'm extremely satisfied with the piece and now I'm confident enough to say it's ready for color. You will find the inked version now in the Marvel art gallery. More as it develops.
