DescriptionSpectacular Spider-Men #6 just came out, so I have some catching up to do with my posting. So tonight I am posting two splash pages from issue #4. As issue #4 begins, Peter and Miles are deeply entrenched in their fantasy lives (courtesy of villains Arcade and Mentallo) where everything is rosy and romantic. Peter is with Gwen and their two perfect kids, Aunt May is with George Stacy, Miles is with Kamala ... But on this splash page, as Peter reflects on how lucky he is, he realizes that "the old Parker luck" was never this good, and suddenly he is flooded with images of all the tragedies that have ensued in his life. To me, this page is so poignant because you have this perfect family tableau on the top, and (in stark contrast) pure sadness and grief below. And SO beautifully penciled and inked by Humberto Ramos and Victor Olazaba. Humberto is amazing at capturing both extremely light-hearted moments and extremely emotional ones. The guy is AMAZING. Thanks for looking! Social/Sharing |

Powerful page. I agree, that contrast of the happy scene above with some of the lowest of lows from Peter's past is quite moving. Also really like that the flashbacks aren't faded or toned down, like they are in the color/published page. I get the use of that device but it seems more impactful to me without it. Probably cause it draws you right into Spidey & Gwen and then back to that tragic storyline.

Hard luck Parker senses something is wrong when things are going too well. A great montage rundown of Peter's most tragic moments making you feel his lifetime of anguish within just one page!

this is an amazing page!!! Captures the extremes both happy and sad/trafic of the Spidey saga within 1 page of storytelling. So great!

LOVE this one, man. Great composition with those different moments mapped our perfectly, and the pure illustration...so cool seeing Humberto's take, especially the central image. And Victor kills those inks, accentuating the detail, as per usual! Congrats!
