Description

A prime example of Emmanuel "Mac" Raboy's spectacular run on Flash Gordon from the late 50s. Raboy was an incredibly gifted artist who created unforgettable images of monstrous creatures and alien landscapes right up until his untimely death in 1967.
This strip is no exception, featuring flame-beasts, Silkonians, the Princess Flora, Brunn, nice battle panels and of course, our hero. Classic imagery of Flash in panel three doing his thing. I really love Raboy's subtle, but very effective inking approach in rendering the appearance of the flame beasts.

I firmly believe that these Raboy strips are among the best values in quality and content in strip art collecting. Raboy was the ideal choice to succeed the legendary Alex Raymond in continuing the adventures of Flash Gordon.

Very nice John! I agree totally, Raboy was the perfect choice for Flash Gordon.

Some of the inks from Raboy might have been done by a needle point to have that much control over such thin lines! Combine that with the lush deep shadows and you have very compelling illustration of sci-fi adventure fantasy that powered imaginations for generations.

Raboy's run on Flash Gordon was amazing and these earlier examples are the best. Nice choice.
