Feeling responsible for the events that Pastor Mikhail had shown him in that vision must have undoubtedly thrown the prince into the darkest despair. He was a sensitive soul, and already prone to depression, like his unfortunate cousin Ludwig...” “Yes, but then why didn't he kill himself immediately? But according to a letter she wrote to her sister (and contrary to the timeline depicted in our story), Mary had lost her virginity to Rudolf only two weeks before their joint suicide, so she wouldn't have even known she was pregnant. Decades later, her suicide note, on Mayerling stationery, addressed to her mother, was discovered in a safety deposit box, describing how she didn't want crazy Rudolf to go alone.
