AdventureMan! is a new comic created by writer Matt Fraction and artists
Terry Dodson and
Rachel Dodson. The series features single mother Claire and her teen son Tommy who are both fans of the old Adventureman pulp stories. Claire becomes the new Adventureman and, ala Doc Savage, is aided by a team of talented individuals. Claire is a member of a large family of adopted daughters and her sisters feature prominently in the initial story. Rachel and Terry appeared Cape and Cowl Con at the Gilman Brewery in Berkeley. Terry posted on his blog that he would be doing head and bust sketches. The topper was the chance to have Rachel ink the piece. The first fellow was solely interested in a Terry sketch so I talked to Rachel. Her inkwell exploded during the flight, but we agreed on her inking the drawing at home and mailing it to me. I watched Terry draw Claire while a line of fans formed behind me. Publisher John Fleskes arrived to drop off a box of
The Art of Rachel and Terry Dodson. Terry reports a conclusion to
Red One is in the works so we'll see Vera back in action. Thanks to
Cape and Cowl Comics in Oakland for holding the event and bringing Rachel and Terry back to the Bay Area. The completed inked piece arrived in the mail with three foamcore sheets.
