DescriptionWhat can be said about George Perez inking his own pencils on anything involving the New Teen Titans other than "WHOA!!"But words truly escape me on this piece, dated 1983, which is just such a perfect depiction of the full team at the peak of George's run on the title. I remember picking up the DC Sampler comics at my local comic book store when they came out in 1983, 84 and 85, but this first one had some truly epic and memorable pieces, including this beauty. The timing on this piece is pre-NTT 38 (since we'd not yet had the "Who is Donna Troy" issue teased in the final top panel) but post NTT 34 (since that's when we learn Terra is working with Deathstroke). It plants seeds for many stories, including Judas Contract and the first Baxter storyline with Raven and Trigon, and if I'm correct, may actually feature the first appearance of Nightwing (the "mystery man in Dick Grayson's life"). PS - I'm sure no one is shocked by this posting. Once I saw it, I (sadly) figured it was just a matter of time before it was in my collection even with the overpay... Social/Sharing |

Perez pencils and inks! The storythreads mentioned places this in the time of Perez at the height of his powers! Poster level artwork. Every individual character image could be used for the Who's Who entry!

Marvellous, Michael. It's one of those peak-George pieces that screams just how much he loved these characters. Looking at this has me reliving the monthly excitement of walking into the shop, scanning the new books and having your heart skip a beat when I caught the first glimpse of the latest cover George crafted for us.
So glad this found the right home.

Prime Perez Titans art! Doesn't get much better than this. George was still actively engaged with these characters and at his artistic peak.

What an ad. So much detail in this DPS, Perez created the comic industry sequel to the movie Bucket of Blood - Bucket of Ink!
If you weren't interested in reading The New teen Titans after seeing this, you weren't interested in anything!
