Latest Golden Age Team-Up Project commission - The Brave & The Bold Annual #4, teaming Batman with the Marvel Family (credited as "The Shazam Family", as they were on DC Comics Presents #34, since DC can't use "The Marvel Family" on covers for legal reasons), adapted from the Alan Davis cover to Avengers #41, as reimagined by Bambos Georgiou.

May 1945 - and with the Allies fighting in Berlin, and Germany on the brink of surrender, Baron Blitzkrieg takes drastic action! Seizing the Spear Of Destiny from the secret vault under the city, he steals an experimental one-man long-distance rocketplane and flies over the Atlantic, heading for America. As his craft nears the coastline, it starts to disintegrate and the Baron bails out, clutching the Spear as he flies down towards his destination...

Meanwhile, in Fawcett City, Batman is in attendance at a meeting of Allied leaders finalising the arrangements for the post-war United Nations, which is due to be joined by the new President, Harry S Truman. Batman is alongside Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Junor and Mary Marvel, the four heroes representing the All-Star Squadron as an honour guard - and providing security for the meeting in case of any attempted last-minute sabotage by the Axis. They are quickly called into action as Baron Blitzkrieg, carrying the Spear Of Destiny, flies down from the skies and immediately attempts to attack the delegates!

The four heroes try to hold back the Nazi villain but, in the initial scuffle, Captain Marvel Junior's arm is caught by the tip of the Spear Of Destiny, drawing blood - and that blood is enough to activate the Spear's mystic powers, and the members of the Marvel Family begin to fall under it's influence! Seeing his allies weakening, Batman is able to broadcast a hurried message warning off any other heroes who are either magically-powered or particularly vulnerable to magic, and calling on any other super-powered champions for assistance!

As the Marvel Family fall under the spell of the Spear, Batman's hands are full as he tries to keep the three of them away while the Allied dignitaries flee - but as they start to overwhelm him, the first of his All-Star Squadron comrades arrive to join the battle: Bulletman, Bulletgirl and Spy Smasher, from Fawcett City, as well as the Flash and Johnny Quick (Johnny carrying Liberty Belle) speeding in from further afield. The new arrivals wade in, with the two speedsters creating whirlwinds which temporarily incapacitate Captain Marvel and Captain Marvel Junior, while Liberty Belle's sonic blasts send Mary Marvel flying. Batman and the other Fawcett City heroes charge Baron Blitzkreig, but he is able to overcome their assault and directs the Marvel Family to renew their attacks!

As the Marvel Family regroup, other heroes arrive - the Ray, carrying the Human Bomb, Phantom Lady and (perched on his shoulder) Doll Man, flying in from Washington, as well as Starman, transporting Hourman, Robotman and Amazing Man in a bubble created by his gravity rod. The Human Bomb's explosive punches are sufficient to briefly hold back Captain Marvel, while Robotman and Hourman go toe-to-toe with his young counterpart - and a combination of Phantom Lady's black-light beam and the Ray's light-bursts blind Mary Marvel. Amazing Man absorbs the properties of a steel flagpole and joins the fight, as Batman and the remaining heroes renew their assault on Baron Blitzkreig!

As the battle continues, Batman realises that they will soon be overcome, and whispers a command to Doll Man - and then hurls the diminutive hero at the Baron! Doll Man is able to punch the Baron through his eye-slits, directly into his eye, and the Baron clutches at his face, dropping the Spear Of Destiny! A shouted order from Batman sees the Flash snatch the falling Spear and speed away towards the coast - and Johnny Quick, Liberty Belle, Bulletman and Bulletgirl run interference to stop the Baron from giving chase!

As the Flash vanishes into the distance, the Marvel Family emerge from under the control of the Spear, and stand with the other heroes, attacking the Baron - and a combined assault from the three Marvels staggers Blitzkreig for long enough for Batman to use a gas-bomb from his utility belt to knock him out! As the Flash returns, having dropped the Spear into the Atlantic Ocean, the heroes are able to capture the Nazi villain - and then welcome their new Commander-in-Chief, President Truman, as he arrives.

Georgiou's figurework fits the golden age story perfectly, as they powerhouses and weren't seen as lithe as Davis art back then.
